Ford's funeral

John Ford’s grandson hands the Midway flag to Mrs. Ford. (Don’t miss Duke Wayne on the right.) 1973.

  1. Few flicks match Stagecoach and My Darling Clementine–though one glitch in MDC was the miscast Mature, and Ford’s occasional tweaking of facts. Doc Holliday in person was a gaunt gunslinger, stoical, spoke Latin–fairly educated for the time. Fonda and Brennan still pack a punch though. Wyatt Earp wasn’t always a deputy– at times gambled, and pimped. Hardly better than the cattle rustlers, card sharpies he was fighting.

Another flick in the tradition of “old-west realism” (rather than melodrama) was Altman and Beatty’s McCabe and Mrs Miller, tho’ I doubt Ford approved (or Duke Wayne).

When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.

  3. Hey Mike. Where did you find these photos of the funeral? I am trying to track them down for a project. Any info you can provide would be helpful. Thanks!
