the stickers on records

This optimistic sticker on the sleeve of The Beach Boys’s M.I.U. Album predicted that their weak cover of “Peggy Sue”, done in a Hooray for Everything-style arrangment, would be a hit. It only managed to make it to #59 on the Billboard charts. Is #59 considered a hit for an act that was once accustomed to regular top tens?

  1. haha, thats excellent, well, the beach boys had the cojones to be smug really and probably did think that it would make it to the top without breaking a sweat. Sweet..

They did have one hit yet. Kokomo was in I think 88. I bet they were as surprised as anyone when that one was successful.
