*The negative* was confiscated?! Because the Pope objected? In 1968 ?
Perhaps it happened, but I’m suspicious that Films & Filming were playing a little fast and loose with their readers here.
Anne Wiazemsky made few films, but with Teorema, you’ve posted on 2 or 3 of them I think. Coincidence ?
But isn’t it more fun to picture the Pope sending out his goons for the prints of the film?
I just looked at Wiazemsky’s CV and by my count I’ve probably had posts on 6 the films she appeared in—some of those being Godard movies in which she appeared only briefly. No coincidence at all. She made good movies and I think she was quite fetching.
She was Mrs Godard (for a bit) and had Robert Bresson make a pass at her whilst making Au Hasard Balthazar.
The latter a bit ‘yuck’. Possibly the former as well, I dont know..
I love the idea of the Pope’s carabinieri charging out in stumpy Alfa Romeo sedans at top speed through the Vatican streets to make the bust.
I’d give the former a “yuck” too. As much as I like some of his movies, I don’t think I’d want to spend 5 minutes in Godard’s company. The cigar smell alone would probably be fairly off-putting.
